Opening
Give me the days when opening day was actually opening day anytime, but at least in some form or another, real baseball is here. In a matchup made in ESPN heaven the New York Yankees and the Boston Redsox will face off to open the year.
While C.C. Sabathia and Josh Beckett are now names and faces that are well recognized as famous Yankee and Redsox names but both teams do have a couple of new faces on their roster.
Adrian Beltre is now manning the hot corner for Boston, and Marco
Scutaro, who resurrected his career with Toronto is now the Redsox short-stop. Victor Martinez, who was brought over during the playoff push will play his first opening day behind the plate at Fenway replacing long time team captain Jason Varitek.
For the Yankees, Curtis Granderson and Brett Gardner are manning center and left field, replacing Hideki Matsui and Johnny Damon. New York also has a new designated hitter in long time Expo and National, Nick Johnson.
The two teams will kick off the regular season at 8:05 eastern time on ESPN2.
For those baseball fans who can't stand to wait until tonight, the MLB Network will televise the last Spring Training game of the year between the San Francisco Giants and the Seattle Mariners at 3:05 EST this afternoon.
