Why I Don't Consider the Cubs Favorites To Win It All

This isn't a way of bashing the Cubs as I have no ill towards them. I just don't think of them as super heavyweight favorites to win it all. Looking at the history of the Cubs, they haven't been to the World Series since 1945. Going back even further, they haven't won since 1908 and that is currently the longest drought in all of baseball today. It is a forgone conclusion that the Chicago Cubs are going to win the division and make the playoffs.
What however isn't known is that can they get out of the National League playoffs to go all the way this year? Chicago fans have a reason to have some concern because whenever the team looks to finally end the drought, something always happens that stops them from doing so in the first place. It's a shame too because I think they're a pretty good team and have the talent that could get it done.
The hottest team in the National League would have to be the Dodgers and that's a dangerous team. It has Manny really being the one that's taken charge in helping them perhaps make the post-season and it could, assuming the Cubs and Brewers make the playoffs, see them against each other. While record-wise you would favor Chicago, the series may end up being favored to the Dodgers given the playoff history as of late. Then again, it could be pretty even.
So many variables have to work out and not worry about 2003 and the collapse. It was just that and I think that it will have to be a year of redemption should they make it. The keys for the Cubs will have to be Zambrano and Dempster getting the job done when called upon in the big dance. That's not to say Lilly and Marquis have been horrific record wise at all as they could play a huge role in Chicago's future.
Right now, you have to believe that it is either World Series or bust for the Chicago Cubs. Cubs fans are tired of the Cubs failing to win it all and who can blame them for that. While I will say it is possible for the Cubs to win, I wouldn't make favorites in the NL. It could be the Phillies or Mets, whichever one in the end wins the division, marked as favorites. Followed by the Wild Card team and then the one from the West. It could be a good thing because then if they win, they can prove everyone wrong.
