Mets 7 – Yankees 4
Johan Santana pitched 7-2/3 strong innings in the first game of the Subway Series that was shortened after Friday’s game was postponed due to rain. Santana did give up three home runs to Derek Jeter, Jason Giambi, and Bobby Abreau, but it just wasn’t enough. Jose Reyes and David Wright both homered for the Mets helping lead them to a 7-4 win over their cross town rivals. It was Santana’s longest outing of the season and pushed his interleague record to an impressive 17-4.
White Sox 3 – Giants 1
Barry Zito’s woes continued Saturday, he got his eighth loss of the season. It is the first time a Giants pitcher has started a season 0-8 since 1890. Mark Buerhle was the benefactor of Zito’s bad luck this time. Buerhle pitched 6-2/3 innings and gave up just one run on seven hits. This win makes him 15-6 in interleague play. Randy Winn had a single in the first inning to extend his hitting streak to twelve games.
Other notes of interest:
