Vizquel Doesn't Come Up Short, Passes Aparicio

As previously reported in one of our baseball wrap ups, Omar Vizquel was approaching the record for most games played at shortstop. Today Vizquel played in his 2,584th major league game as a shortstop. This moved him one game ahead of baseball great Luis Aparicio, who happens to be from Venezuela just like Vizquel is.
He did it while playing in a doubleheader, unfortunately for his Giants they lost both games to the Marlins. Vizqquel committed his first error of the season, in which he has played just 12 games, as the team lost 8-6. He was not sure he could play in game two, he had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee back in February. He said, "It's a little bit complicated to be able to play nine additional innings, considering that my knee has to be treated after each game due to pain. I'll do everything I can. I have many friends who showed up today in Miami just to witness this moment." In game two he went 0-for-3 and the Giants lost 5-4.
Aparicios had held the record since 1973. He was just 39 years old, Vizquel is 41. Vizquel is also in his 19th season, Aparicio played in just 18.
Vizquel has done this while playing for the Mariners, Indians, and Giants.
