Dodgers Injury Woes Escalate
The Dodgers will be without outfielder Andruw Jones for four to six weeks as he recovers from surgery to repair cartilage in his right knee. He had been struggling thus far this season, batting just .165 with two home runs and seven runs batted in. He is now on the 15-day disabled list. Dodgers manager Joe Torre pointed out that there was no further damage found during surgery than what doctors had expected. They are actually lucky they aren’t losing their big free agent acquisition which they are paying $36.2 million for this season and next.
The list of other injury news for the Dodgers includes shortstop Rafael Furcal who has been on the DL since May 6th. He should be back some time next week.
Pitcher Jason Schmidt is working on rehabbing his shoulder which was operated on last season. He worked 3-1/3 innings, throwing 45 pitches while giving up three hits, and three runs. He also had three strikeouts in the game for the Dodger’s Class A affiliate.
Nomar Garciaparra will be undergoing more tests in a couple of days. He is now on the 60-day disabled list because of injuries to his right hand and left calf.
As things keep mounting against the Dodgers, Jeff Kent missed Tuesday’s game due to lower back spasms.
