Can O' Corn's Heroes and Zeroes for April 4th
April 5th 2010 13:10
With just one game played last night, it's not real hard for Can O' Corn to come up with it's very first edition of "Heroes and Zeroes". Boston rallied from a 5-2 deficit to beat the Yankees 9-7 in baseball's opening night.
Heroes: Kevin Youkilis, Dustin Pedroia, Jorge Posada
Kevin Youkilis was the undisputed hero of the game for the Red Sox. Down 5-2, Youk really began the Boston comeback in earnest with a two run triple, that closed the gap to one run, and he scored to tie it later in the inning on a single by Adrian Beltre.
Dustin Pedroia tied the game again one inning later, and Kevin Youkilis scored on a passed ball to give the Sox the lead for good. Pedroia then singled in a run in the bottom of the eighth for a little breathing room for Jonathan Papelbon.
Jorge Posada did his best to lead his team to victory, with a solo home run in the top of the second to start off the scoring, and singled home a run in the top of the seventh.
Zeroes: C.C. Sabathia, Josh Beckett
Neither starting pitcher last night was remotely impressive. Sabathia started off okay, but once he started to go downhill he went down fast. Becket struggled from the outset. Sabathia went just 5.1 innings giving up six hits, 2 walks, and five earned runs, while Beckett lasted just 4.2 innings. Beckett surrendered 8 hits, 3 walks, 5 earned runs and two homers.

You see how quick Beckett signed that contract after that performance.
This will be a great race for the AL East all season long.

It is rather funny that Beckett signed an extension after that performance, though he'll almost certainly bounce back
